To boost organic exports, a 10.2 MT batch of value-added certified organic gluten-free jackfruit powder and retort-packed jackfruit cubes were exported to Germany from Bengaluru on Tuesday by sea.

“From Bangalore to Berlin: to stimulate the export of organic products, a batch of 10.2 tonnes of processed and certified organic jackfruit was exported from Bangalore to Germany,” tweeted Trade Minister Piyush Goyal.

The shipment was processed at the packing station owned by Phalada Agro Research Foundations (PARF) in Bangalore. The PARF registered with the Agricultural and Processed Food Export Development Authority (APEDA) represents a group of 1,500 farmers with broad coverage of approximately 12,000 acres of farms. These farmers cultivate medicinal and aromatic herbs, coconut, jackfruit, mango puree products, spices and coffee.

Recently a 1.2 MT shipment of fresh jackfruit was exported from Tripura to London. The jackfruit came from Krishi Sanyoga Agro Producer Company Ltd, based in Tripura. The shipment was packed in an APEDA-assisted packaging plant of Salt Range Supply Chain Solution Ltd and exported by Kiega EXIM Pvt Ltd. It was the first packing station assisted by APEDA for exports. to the European Union, which was approved in May 2021.

In 2020-21, India produced around 3.49 million tonnes of certified organic produce, which includes all varieties of food products, namely oilseeds, sugar cane, grains, millets, cotton , legumes, aromatic and medicinal plants, tea, coffee, fruits, spices, dry products. fruits, vegetables, processed foods, etc.

Madhya Pradesh covered the largest area under organic certification, followed by Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka, Odisha, Sikkim and Uttar Pradesh. In 2020-21, the total export volume of organic products was 8.88 lakh metric ton and the export achievement was about ??7,078 crores or $ 1 billion.

The Bengaluru-based PARF facilitates the certification process to National Organic Production Program (NPOP) standards for their smallholder groups. The PARF processing unit has been certified by APEDA as part of its accredited Organic Certification.

“In the framework of the NPOP, organic products are cultivated within the framework of an agriculture system without the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides with an ecologically and socially responsible approach. This method of agriculture works at the grassroots level by preserving the reproductive and regenerative capacity of the soil, good plant nutrition and good soil management, produces nutritious food rich in vitality and resistant to disease. APEDA is currently implementing the NPOP, which involves the accreditation of certification bodies, standards for organic production, promotion of organic farming and marketing, etc. The Ministry of Commerce said in a statement.
