Celebrate European organic food with the launch of the European Day of Organic Agriculture
The EU has decided to celebrate European organic food with the launch of EU Organic Day.
European Organic Day will be celebrated on September 23 of each year. The new initiative is designed to showcase and promote organic products grown in the European space.
Agriculture Commissioner Janusz Wojciechowski said: “Today we celebrate organic production, a type of sustainable agriculture where food production is in harmony with nature, biodiversity and animal welfare. September 23 is also the autumnal equinox, when the day and night are equally long, a symbol of balance between agriculture and the environment which is ideal for organic production.
“I am happy that together with the European Parliament, the Council and the key players in this sector, we can launch this annual organic farming day, a great opportunity to raise awareness of organic production and promote the key role it plays. it plays a role in the transition to sustainable food systems, ”he added on September 23.
According to the EU, organic production has a number of important advantages. Organic fields have about 30 percent more biodiversity, organically farmed animals enjoy a higher degree of animal welfare and take fewer antibiotics, and organic farmers have higher incomes and are more resilient.
